The preview function in Haiilo generates a preview for many common file formats, which you can see in the following overview:

If you are using a different format, you need to download the file beforehand to view it locally on your device.
Office files
The preview for text documents is currently implemented for Office files from version 2007 (.docx and .pptx). The preview function exclusively shows the first page of the file. Word and Office files in the old format (.doc and .ppt), and the files of Apple products (Keynote, Numbers, and Pages) do not currently have a preview option.
mp4 files
Videos are played in Haiilo using the "video" tag. This means that the browser (or ultimately the operating system) is responsible for decoding the video and audio with the installed codecs. Haiilo has no influence on the codecs installed on the devices. The .mp4 format is only a container, meaning that the video and audio data present in the container exists in various formats, which are determined when creating the video. The ending .mp4 does not guarantee that the video can be played everywhere.
Videos uploaded in Haiilo are played back in the original format and not converted. We recommend producing the videos in such a way that the codecs used are covered by as many devices as possible.
We are unable to provide a suitable list due to the wide range of combinations of devices, browsers, and installed codecs. The encoding profile for the web should use level 5.1 or lower, so that it can also be displayed via end devices (such as cell phones).
In general, high-quality codecs tend not to be supported by low-end devices, such as cell phones. Raw material can be converted into suitable formats, e.g. by a specialist media department.

Is there a workaround to assign preview images to documents?
It’s possible to use a content app in which you can save individual image widgets using a suitable layout and files using the download widget.
The result could look like this example:
